On May 13th, Saratoga Associates hosted a public workshop at City Hall. The workshop was the second meeting for the Downtown Streetscape and Riverfront Access Design Project. The scope of this meeting was to discuss conceptual designs for the "Arts Park" Saranac Riverfront Boardwalk, and other riverfront access concepts. Also discussed in this meeting was feedback involving yet to be designed streetscape improvements.
After the November 16th Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) and November 22nd Planning Board (PB) meeting(s), the project was modified to address comments and mitigate concerns of ZBA and PB members. The changes made have been mitigating measures to address potential impacts perceived by the Boards.
Understanding that companies are increasingly seeking to relocate and invest in vibrant, walkable downtowns in an effort to attract and retain a talented workforce, Governor Cuomo launched the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), a $100 million effort to improve the vitality of urban centers across New York State.
In early April, Governor Cuomo announced a $10 million opportunity for 1 community in each of the 10 Regional Economic Development areas with an existing and progressing Downtown.The City of Plattsburgh submitted an application to be considered as the North Country Regional $10 million recipients.
To improve the quality of life for all City residents by identifying and pursuing state and federal funded housing, economic development, public facilities, infrastructure, recreation, and community planning projects supported by city residents and other community organizations.
