(PLATTSBURGH- Tuesday October 24th 2023) - The City of Plattsburgh welcomed over 30 community members on Wednesday October 18th, at its first public workshop for the City’s Zoning and Coding update. Workshop attendees shared feedback, analyzed multiple maps of the City and listened to a presentation from LaBella Associates Senior Planner, Matthew Rogers about the process thus far. The City is encouraging residents and community members to share their feedback by completing an online mapping survey which can be found at my.cityofplattsburgh-ny.gov.
This is the first of multiple workshops that will engage the public on the City’s Zoning and Coding update, titled SmartCode Plattsburgh. Prior to this workshop, City staff have regularly met with a Public Advisory Committee composed of 13 members to review the City’s current code and zoning laws and draft a Diagnostic Report of the current code. City Staff in partnership with LaBella Associates have also conducted eight meetings with stakeholder groups consisting of local business owners, bike advocates and other interest groups.
Currently, the City is seeking public input via its online digital engagement platform, my.cityofplattsburgh-ny.gov to better understand where the community would like to see more housing, commercial spaces and bike infrastructure in our city.
In the coming months, more public workshops will be held with a focus on infill and priority area neighborhoods. This will allow the Project Team and public to conceptualize potential redevelopment and infill opportunities. The City will announce when these workshop dates have been finalized.
