City of Plattsburgh Applies for Downtown Revitalization Grant “Durkee Street Reimagined”
May 27, 2016
In early April, Governor Cuomo announced a $10 million opportunity for 1 community in each of the 10 Regional Economic Development areas with an existing and progressing Downtown. Today, after in-depth review and collaboration, the City of Plattsburgh submitted an application to be considered as the North Country Regional $10 million recipients.
“The Durkee Street/Dock Street area of Downtown Plattsburgh is the focal point of our application.” said Mayor James Calnon. “It is the home of several businesses, services and community celebrations; development will only create more opportunity for residents, professionals and visitors who live, work and play in Downtown Plattsburgh.”
The City’s DRI proposal, titled “Durkee Street Reimagined”, identifies the 2 ½ acre Durkee Street parking lot that borders the river, walking/biking trails, business and Arts. This location will become a central gathering place, a recreational access space, a space to expand the seasonal Farmers Market to a year-round market, increased retail and multi-use housing, all in the heart of the City. Decisions on what ten communities will be receiving the 10 million are expected to be announced in early summer.
“Plattsburgh is on the move.” said Paul DeDominicas, Director of Community Development. “A vision for the City has been developed from the bottom up, building on conversations with residents, visitors and businesses.”
The application is viewable on the City of Plattsburgh website ( on the Community Development page. For more information, please contact Director of Community Development, Paul DeDominicas via email:
