City of Plattsburgh seeks city residents who may be interested in serving on Livable Community Advisory Committee
On February 14, 2019, the City of Plattsburgh Common Council approved the establishment of a “Livable Community Advisory Committee.”
The purpose of the committee is to solicit as many ideas as possible from the community to enhance city livability, those factors that add up to a community's quality of life—including the built and natural environments, economic prosperity, social stability and equity, educational opportunity, pedestrian access, crime and nuisance, beautification, and cultural, arts, entertainment and recreation possibilities.
The Council is seeking committee members who will be appointed for a three-month term and will serve without compensation. The Committee shall consist of two City Councilors nominated by the Common Council, one representative nominated by SUNY Plattsburgh, up to seven City residents nominated by the City Governance Committee, as compiled from a list of volunteers who will register their interest with the Mayor’s Office by completing an application. The Mayor will also serve on committee as ex-officio.
At the conclusion of the three month period, or sooner if appropriate, the Committee will present their research, findings, advice and proposed solutions to the Common Council at which point the Committee will be disbanded.
Mayor Read said, “We regularly receive ideas from the public that can enhance our quality of life. And we recognize that quality of life and property tax moderation is what will keep our fixed-income senior citizens here and attract the next generation of residents. This committee will go a long way toward collecting all our best ideas to accomplish our goals.”
Councilor Moore said, “We are looking forward to obtaining input from the community to provide actionable ideas that will enhance the overall livability of our city. This is our opportunity to collaborate to contribute towards making Plattsburgh an even better place to live."
Please submit an application by Friday, March 8, 2019 to the Mayor’s Office, 41 City Hall Place, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. The application is available on the City of Plattsburgh website, or by contacting the Mayor’s office at 518-563-7701 or email@example.com
